Local police departments, including the North Versailles Township Police, are no strangers to complaints from residents about financial scams, North Versailles Police Chief Norman Locke told the Allegheny East Business Network.
The police department receives daily complaints about money stolen by scammers, the chief said, and losses sometimes total tens of thousands of dollars.
Unfortunately, there’s not much if anything law enforcement can do to recover money stolen in online or telephone scams. The people responsible for perpetrating the scams could be anywhere in the world.
Awareness and prevention are the best ways to stop financial scams.
