K. Terry Carskaddan, M.ED. LPC
Licensed Psychologist
200 James Place, Suite 403
Monroeville, PA 15146

It is a pleasure to be a member of EABA. As a practicing psychologist, I am in a business which helps people (help themselves) and at the same time, can be very isolating. Confidentiality demands no specific discussion of my practice. Most folks don’t go around asking, “Who is your therapist or psychologist,” as you would ask for a banking, roofing or dental referral. However, more people are accepting of therapy now and it does not need to be viewed as such a stigma, as in the past. Confidentiality rules.

I began my journey in Homestead, PA working in Mental Health, Mental Retardation and Drug and Alcohol. That was real life experience in the trenches. After several years, I switched to counseling at CCAC and started 2 centers for Women and also Adults returning to college. All the time, I managed family and worked as a therapist after regular hours. I retired from CCAC in 2003, after 25 years, and focused on my private practice.

It has been an exciting adventure and hopefully will continue after I retire this December. I still plan on using my knowledge to consult, write and perhaps conduct groups. We can always learn from each other. Places like EABA allow that to continue. I appreciate the congeniality.

Congratulations on being the EABA November 2017 Member of the Month!

The CFO Factor

100 West Station Square Drive
Suite 230
Pittsburgh, PA 15219
412-489-0816 or 412-489-0817

EABA Member Name: Scott Martin and Jim Vazzo

In early 2012, Jim Vazzo and Scott Martin (after a combined 50+ years of corporate finance and accounting expertise) decided that it was time to help those companies that either could not afford their own CFO (Chief Financial Officer) or were too small to have a full time CFO. The underlying belief, of course, is that ALL companies need the financial guidance that a CFO can provide. Both Scott and Jim believe that small business owners ( and non-profits) need to run their organizations with the same tools that the “Big Boys” use. They advocate generating and reviewing monthly financial statements so the owner can “change course” if need be prior to waiting until year-end, which could be too late. They promote adopting software in which to run your business; scheduling, invoicing and customer service, as there is a great deal of “off the shelf software” that can simplify doing business. Additionally, they assist clients seeking help with bank lines of credit and risk (insurance) management.

Wilmerding Notary

Member Spotlight March 2014

Wilmerding Notary

317 Welsh Avenue
Wilmerding, PA 15148

In 2002, Sergeant Major James Wright retired from the United States Army. Wilmerding Notary was opened for business in 2010 to help the community with their personal & legal paperwork verification. Mr. Wright handles all except DMV issues. The tendency for him to serve came full circle in November 2013, when he was elected Mayor of Wilmerding for a four year term. He didn’t have much time to settle into his office when a very big unwelcome “hello” greeted him! Ice Plant Hill Road had one of the biggest landslides to hit the community. Jim wants to share a very important point with us. This landslide is affecting businesses and residences on both sides of the slide , but it also affects the school children and the East Allegheny School bus schedule due to the re-routing of the stops. His concern and caring for the children is evident with Jim’s support of the EABA Scholarship Program. The East Allegheny Business Association thanks him for his support. Congratulations on being the EABA March 2014 Member of the Month.

EABA Member Name: Karen Hadad Edwards

On September 6,1986, Karen Hadad Edwards and her late husband Jim Hadad borrowed $50.00 from a friend to rent a carpet cleaning machine. Their first job was for Denny’s Restaurant. They soon learned carpet cleaning alone did not create enough cash flow! After some research, they decided working for Real Estate companies would be the best way to go. Howard Hanna was the first to hire them. They expanded their service from carpet cleaning only to include general cleaning, wall repairs and maintenance. In 1998, Jim Hadad passed away. Karen and Craig Edwards were married in 2001 and along with her son Patrick Conley, they moved forward. Patrick graduated in 2002 from IUP with his MBA and he began a marketing division, Conley Consulting. Today, Patrick is the sales manager and the “oldest employee”. He was emptying trash cans at six! Hadad’s is truly a family run and operated business. Karen said,”Our Motto is to treat our employees and clients as family.” At Hadad’s we have a standard of excellence in customer service that we improve upon each day.” Karen loves what she does. Helping people realize their potential is her passion. All of this won them a Super Service Award on Angie’s List. Hadad does both commercial and residential work. As a member of the West Penn MultiList service, she is able to list and sell in a number of counties in Western Pennsylvania, and she may have a sale soon in Beaver County!

If you are moving to another county or state and need a realtor, please contact Barbara Logan first, as she will be able to refer an Agent for you. As a matter of fact, in 2006, she helped Andrea Graziano sell a property in Florida. As a result of that sale, Barbara obtained her designation as a Residential Relocation Specialist. EABA Member:  Elaine Henigan

E. Henigan Studios opened in November of 1978, without a long-range plan. In fact the only plan Elaine (the person behind the “E”) had was to fulfill a sincere desire to be creative. Elaine was a graphic designer who drafted her first logo to reflect the many facets of

her creativity.  Bitten by the photo bug, Elaine found the business leaning increasingly toward the making of Creative Magic with her camera.  She originally felt the plural in the word “Studios” meant the various avenues in which she planned to market her creativity. Little did she know that it would eventually mean she would operate outof more than one studio location.

With a never-ending desire to work hard and forever being dedicated to servicing her customers in the very best way; the studio is now in its 34th  year. In all of those years of hard work, the creativity has never stopped giving back a great sense of accomplishment and pride that you cannot associate with a price.

So in case you did not know we are a traditional photography studio specializing in portraits, weddings, and groups.  We are an all-digital studio since 2002 and invite everyone to consider giving us a call when choosing a photographer to capture any image. Please consider our current special for a professional portrait depicting you in your business environment.

Thanks so much for giving me the ability to share a little about my dream.

Note: Elaine was one of the original founders of the East Allegheny Business Association 30 years ago. She has been an active and dedicated member ever since.

EABA Member: Andrea Graziano

As a resident of North Versailles since 1966, Andrea felt it was important to become involved in the Community. The political scene seemed interesting, so she was off and running. First, she volunteered by driving voters to the polls, etc. In 1984 she was elected as the Democratic Committee Woman for the 4th Ward and in 1986 she was installed as the First Woman Commissioner to serve in North Versailles. That position was held for two terms (8 yrs).

From 1986 -1992 she was a member of the EABA Board as the Government Body Rep/Liaison for the Township. In 1993 Andrea became an EABA member as an Avon Independent Sales Rep. She has remained a board member for 24 years. On August 28, 1992, Andrea served as Mistress Ceremonies for the ground breaking ceremony of the Naval and Marine Corps Reserve Readiness Center and on September 18, 1993 she was a featured speaker for the Dedication Ceremony.

Seeing the completion and taking part in the ribbon cutting ceremony was a dream come true for Andrea. Because of her active support and strong belief in the U.S. Marine Corps, especially during her son’s five year tour of duty, Andrea was nicknamed “Mamma Marine.” In her spare time she is very active in her Church, Choir and is Chairperson of the Board of Parkview Community FCU along with selling Avon.
